Hello all, as the title says, I’m trying to install a Powercolor RX 6600 XT Red Devil in my Mac Pro 5.1. I do plan on installing Opencore and updating my OS. Also I plan on updating the gpu bios to work with the Mac. My question is, the gpu has a 6 pin and 8 pin connections. I’m currently using a RX 580 which has just a single 8 pin connection. I have a dual mini 6 pin to 8 pin adapter for that RX 580 card. How do I power the extra 6 pin for the RX 6600 XT? Should I get a 8 pin to 8 pin + 6(2) pin adapter?

So it would be:

Mac -> dual mini 6 pin to 8 pin adapter -> 8 pin to 8 pin + 6(2) pin adapter -> 6600 XT. Would this work and be safe enough to power the card and not burn out the connections on the motherboard? I chose this card because it’s the maximum you can go before you need a pixlas mod.

Thanks in advance!

To power the card properly you need to do the Pixlas Mod on your PSU. if you draw to much power from the 2 mini 6 pin connections on the logic board you have a chance of killing the board.

Do a search for the Pixlas Mod and follow it carefully.

The Typical power draw of the Red Devil 6600XT is just ~170W

Dual mini 6pin -> single 8pin + 8pin Female -> dual 6+2pin is good enough to power this card.

Thank you! I thought I’d ask before I buy and try.
