Power disabiled When SSD replaced ?

I read that one should go into the Bios and disable the notebook power supply prior to opening the case and installing the SSD card or for that matter other hardware. Anyone here done this or were you just very careful in replacing the parts.

I never heard of that, so I did a quick google, and I found only this one video (and its for a x1 carbon) explaining to disable the battery within the bios, which would in affect fully power down the laptop

All of the other videos I saw just jumped in and replaced the SSD. I suppose it cannot hurt to turn the battery off, but if it were me, I'd probably just power down, remove the A/C power cord and open up the back. If you don't feel comfortable, then yes by all means go into the bios

It's just precautionary, as long as the battery is physically attached there's potential for error. If BIOS has the option do it, as it costs nothing. Personally I tend to just do a full shutdown and change what I need to, no rings or watches mind. If major surgery like repasting the CPU & GPU I'll physically disconnect the battery.

If in a very dry environment, better to be grounded when dealing with sensitive electronics, SSD should be ok as they are not overly sensitive.

That is my thinking as well. I’ll just ground myself prior to opening and inserting the SSD. Thank you for confirming my concerns.

Manuals for my cars and bikes often say similar stuff. Detach the leads from the battery prior to doing any work. I understand it is an abundance of overcaution, but yeah... I am not doing that
