Hi,

I know that Mail needs to be opened to receive mails while in Power Nap. Same thing as while my mac is awake.

But what about all the other Apps?

And in general: Do I need to leave the App Store open to receive automatic system updates?

Thank you guys.

Don't know about mail and other apps, but I do know you don't need app-store opened for system updates.

But if what you're saying about mail is the case in ML, I'm sure you will need app store opened to get updates on apps you've installed.

I tested this today. Closed my MBA's lid while at home so it had access to wi-fi. Sent myself an email and an iMessage (from and to a different account). Left it over night and this morning when I didn't have any internet access around me I opened it to see that I had received the email but the iMessage didn't go through until I connected to wi-fi. Mail.app was open but Messages.app wasn't. When I connected to wi-fi I received the iMessages even when it wasn't open.

Yah I tested this last night. Time Machine was set to back up and I kept my mail program open. Checked it this morning and the mail app crashed when it came back from wake and it never backed up.

Is that a feature? Haha..

You can check the Console-logs to see if Power Nap worked.

Never checked that out.. this is what I got.

I closed the lid at 11:08pm and woke it back up at 7:32am

It was certainly doing something while sleeping, not sure what haha.
