My MacPro Xeon power supply started "putt-putt-putting" a couple of weeks ago, then died abruptly. I'm resigned to replacing the power supply one way or another; but, before buying a replacement, I just want to check to see if my old G5 PowerMac might have a compatible power supply. Anybody know, just off the cuff? My Xeon is 8 Core, and I think it has a 980w power supply. Is the G5 PowerMac anywhere close?

Yeah, they're completely different, unfortunately. G5 towers have a long, skinny PSU installed at the bottom of the case. On the Mac Pro, it's a boxier unit right next to the optical drive carrier.

Also, check in System Information to verify which Mac Pro you have (1,1, 2,1, 3,1, etc.). The part numbers do differ across generations.
