So I tested this at work with my iPhone (which I assume would work similarly). I turned off my iPhone, then docked it to my power supply. The iPhone turned on automatically. Think this is normal behavior.

Edit: Nevermind. I placed it on the dock and shut it down and it remained off. Yours does seem to have an issue. Will test with my iPad when I get home tonight.

I know the iPhone will do this too, EXCEPT.... If you plug in your iPhone while its on, THEN turn it off, it will stay off.....

If I do the same thing with the iPad, it will turn on even after I turn it off after plugging it in.

Just updated my post. It does stay off unlike yours. Will test with my iPad tonight.

I have had 2 iPads. Both do the same thing. If I turn off, then plug in via AC, it will turn back on.

Why Turn It Off?

Why do people power down their iPads/iPhones? The only time I power mine off is when I accidentally run the battery all the way down or to reset it. There really is no need to power either one of them down at night when charging.

The OP isn't shutting down just turning off the screen.

Yes I do want to shut down. Also, keeping it off if I'm not using it saves power, even if its just a little bit. Guess its a preference thing...
