PowerBook G4 867MHz 12" (M8760LL/A) Maximum ram question

Hi guys i got a 12" G4 powerbook, 867Mhz, love it to bits but the ram is being almost always been used up, i have swap files up to 1gb sometimes which is bad i know, i am looking into a macbook in december/jan, i just was wondering what is the maximum ram available on this machine?

currently i have the built in 128+512mb = 640mb

i found this link that says that the maximum is 640

so what is it really?

and is it really worth the extra $$ to upgrade the ram or just to save the cash and use it for the Macbook?

I have the same machine. It was originally released with a max 640MB limit, but that was before the 1GB chips were released. There have been other posters here who successfully reported that they'd gone upwards of 1GB, so I think you'll be fine if you did.

It still wouldn't be as fast as a MacBook though.

You could take out the 512 chip and put a Gig chip in there giving a total of 1128, I don't know how 1152 would be achieved. Either way I would say get the memory, cause the PB will still be very usable for another year or two (until software becomes too demanding).

Hmm.. i may just end i trying this, i just want to be able to use it for a few more months, before i get a new machine, i am happy with the powerbook, if i cant to keep it till everything is UB would be great..

So should i go for it, or should i just play the waiting game, i currently using anything too tasking on it at the moment, but i have a few websites to do and some designs in photoshop for a module at uni next month...

any ideas?
