hey everyone. i have had my dual 2 ghz powermac g5 for about a month. when i first got it i never heard the superdrive make any noise. now whenever i put in a cd i hear the drive rev up and i hear alot of scratching. i dont know if "scratching" is good word choice but thats what it sounds like. all of the cds/dvds mount fine. i hear it spin then just start to scratch inside the computer. it mostly happens right after i put in the cd/dvd. after a couple seconds it goes away. any idea on how to fix this? it is loud and VERY annoying. thanks for the help and sorry for my grammar.

If it were mine and being almost brand new, I would call Apple. Better yet if you live near an Apple Store or you local Apple Reseller, it would be easier for them to check it in person. Either way it doesn't sound normal and needs to be checked.

I have a similar question:

I just got my G5, and when I eject the superdrive, it seems like it's kind of opening too slowly, and not very smoothly. It kind of "drags" and it sounds like it's almost catching on something. There's no problem when I close it. just when it opens. Also, it seems like the tray doesn't come completely out. I'm not able to just set the disc in the tray, I have to kind of angle it in, under the lip. I'm wondering if there's a problem with the door not opening fast enough. has anyone else experienced this with the superdrive? Is it normal? Thanks!

I have to angle my discs in, too. I believe that to be normal. Actually, I never really thought about it before...It works just fine. As for the other issues, I cannot answer those.

That's good to know. So, yours opens smoothly, with no drag or delay? I'll have to check with support on mine, I guess.
