Do you think that the current PowerMac G5 range will undergo a speed bump before the Intel ones come out?
I know that we have no idea when the Intel models will come out, but assume it's later in the year (Sep), then would a speed bump around Easter be likely?

If there was only, say, a 2 month wait till a speed bump, I would wait.
Late 2006 is too far off to wait for Intel. I will be buying soon.

I'm thinking of getting the Quad, will last a long time. (and can afford it :D)
I don't update frequently. Just take a look at my current setup.
PowerMac G3/266 Sonnet G4/1Ghz 768 Mb RAM
Radeon 9200. Mac OS 10.4.3 (10.4.4 is unstable)

I'm in for a speed shock when I buy...

I don't really know anything, haha, but I'd be surprised if they ever upgraded a PPC processor again. They're already renaming the powerbooks because "power is the past," so I can't imagine that power can still be the future for another line. Besides, the Quads are beasts. Only the top Intel PowerMac will beat it, so I definitely say go Quad now. Have the best PPC ever offered. You're gonna be set with that machine for a long time.

did Steve say that all Macs would be Intel-based by the end of the year?

if you can wait... wait until Easter.that's what i'd be inclined to do. but if you do really need a new Mac now, i'd say just upgrade, go Quad, that's sure to be a powerhouse for a good time yet. and better to have it and use it rather than waiting (if you're not the waiting type).

Yes, he did. Although, I don't think he meant that no PowerPC machines would be available then, just that there would be an Intel alternative for each existing model (and possibly some existing models no longer available).

if you can wait... wait until Easter.

I think the PowerMac line will be last to transition - WWDC at the earliest, October at the latest.
