Powermac, is it worth to buy?

Hi, guys. I am getting a birthday present for myself. May be a Powermac or MBP. I do not NEED it but since I didn't buy myself anything for many Christmas, Chinese New Years and my birthdays. So I decided to treat myself this year.

Amazon is offering $200 rebate which ends Wednesday plus I will get 2% cash back from my credit card. I'll just have to pay $1800++ for Powermac Dual core 2.0G or $2200++ for 2.3G.

Is it worth to get a Powermac now or I should give myself a rain check to wait for "Intel Powermac"? Tomorrow is the last day for Amazon's rebate, so your inputs are highly appreciated.

the powermac is an amazing machine. Its dual core and 64bit.....why get the first gen MacPro? i wouldn't!!

Nope. I do not do photo editing nor video editing nor gaming...
Just decided to dig some of my saving and treat myself.
Had a Powerbook Titanium 1G and sold it 2 weeks ago. I am using my old Dell right now.

the only reason i say get the quad is b/c it will last the longest. cuz eventually the intel powermac will come out, and it will most likely be more powerful, but it'll be hard to beat the quad.

but the others are great also. if you get a good deal on one, why not go for it?

since it's a birthday present, you might as well get it now instead of waiting

I would say get the new 20" iMac core duo.

Frontrow still sucks, but the iSight, wireless everything and small inclosure make it much better than a Power Mac. It really is true that you do not need a Power Mac unless you are pro. The only justification is that it has more room. Just about any addon could be matched by an external piece of hardware and more than 2 gigs of RAM is ridiculous for most uses.

he does have a point. but then again, it's all what you use it for, and what you want, since it's your present. i have a 17" imac core duo, and i love it. but i would also love a powermac, i just couldn't afford one. (but i'm a poor college student)

The dual core Intel iMac 20" would more than cover your needs and make you reasonably future resistant through the upcoming processor wars.

If you were using your system to generate income, then a PowerMac 2.0
is preferable, but in your case, I think you're better of with the iMac
and some funds left over for software and additional needs.

You think it's sensible to get an iMac? I like iMac but I don't like the all-in-one design. Is it a smart move to get a PPC PM while Intel PM is on its way?

Id go for a quad powermac myself. but I use final cut studio
Id buy one buy my pocket book isnt suitable at the moment and I think I will get an ipod first.
