Pre-intel Mac Mini???

I currently have a pre-intel Mac Mini and am looking to upgrade to an 09 Mini...

My question is: What can I do with my old Mac Mini? I was thinking about trying to make it into a Linux SAN but I'm not sure what versions of Linux would run on it (if any) since it's not an Intel Mac.

Are there any legitimate geeky/fun uses for this old thing or is it destined to be a door stop?

For me I use my old Mac Mini G4 as a simple media server hooked up to my 42" computer monitor. It doesn't even have a keyboard hooked up to it most of the time.

You can also find the linux kernel your looking for here at: http://penguinppc.org/
It is a group of guys working on the port and configuring it right, take a look at it, they have some pretty useful information. I do also know that there.

You can also just install the latest Ubuntu distro 9.04 and run the just use its kernel. Here is the PowerPC instructions on that:

A web server is a great use for outdated equipment. If you aren't into websites, a few external drives make it an instant NAS. If you need the money, you could likely sell it for at least some money (but not much).

Pulptunes

Have you checked out pulptunes ?

It is a small little webserver app that lets you play your itunes from anywhere.

I just set it up today, had alittle trouble under Safari 4 but not under Firefox.

Check it out, pulptunes in google, it's freeware / opensource

pretty cool to go to a party and log into your own itunes library

I would sell it on ebay, they seem to be going for $200 to $300, and you can use that to offset the purchase of the new one, or buy upgrades for the new one.
