Interesting. Yesterday I did a pre-order on a 16GB iPad and I thought I read here or somewhere else that they were limiting you to 2 iPads per pre-order. Well this morning I got to thinking that I might would rather have a 32GB unit and so went to see about doing a 2nd pre-order. Apple wouldn't let me do it - said only 1 pre-order per Apple ID.

It seems like there's a high demand. If I remember correctly they first wanted to limit 3 iPads per person. Than 2, and now it seems just one. But if you want a 32 GB, just cancel your first one.

Hmm odd because you are able to order 2 per customer. Call apple and just have them change your order to the 32gb instead of the 16gb. Easiest way.

Im experiencing the same thing. I reserved a 32gb wifi ipad for pickup and today I went to try and see if I could resrve another and it says you have reached your reserve limit of one per customer but yesterday it allowed you to reserve two.

I have three pre-ordered, two 64gig 3g iPads, one 32g Wi-Fi. They are all on the same order, so maybe it is one ORDER per customer, or two iPad per type (ie. Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi+3g). Not really sure, but mine went through. All are for delivery, not in store pickup.

Indeed Apple has restricted pre orders. You can preorder two iPads, but only when you preorder them at the same time in the same order.

So 1 order of 2 iPads.

Although thats what i understand from all this. I on the other hand have to wait until they hit our borderland Germany. The Dutch have to wait

Looks like the reservation system allows one per Apple ID, but pre-orders are two. You don't have to put any skin on the line to reserve, so Apple is probably trying to keep people from mucking up the system by reserving a second "just in case."

on day one i pre ordered a 64 gig wifi only, about 30 mins later i ordered a 64 gig 3g. both orders were processed. but that was like at 6 am on day 1.

If you want to get a different sized one, I THINK you can do this by modifying your existing reservation instead of trying to create a new one. There is a link to modify/cancel in your confirmation email.

Two pre-orders in two days...

I had second thoughts about not getting a 3G model after pre-ordering a WiFi model yesterday. So I attempted to pre-order one - and it was accepted! Same Apple ID on both orders.

Fortunately, I'm single so I don't have to explain this to anyone :). I may give the WiFi model to my daughter or sell it on eBay if she's not into it. But now I have two iPads to look forward to in the mail.

I ordered the WiFi model at 7:35AM PST on the 12th. Then I ordered the 3G model at 7:53AM PST. Both were acknowledged within three hours via email.

Day 1 I ordered 2 on 2 separate orders with 1 apple ID.

1 wifi - a shared expense with my someday to be ex (birthday present for a kid)

1 3g - an expense all my own.

It went thru at 8:45am on Friday without issue.

If I had to justify myself to a frowning spouse, I'd be much less of a gadget man.

The secret to being a married gadget man? Marry gadget woman.

As a gadget girl in the process of a divorce, I have for sure figured this out. It can get ugly if the other 1/2 doesn't like gadgets :D

On March 12 I ordered a 32 gig 3G. Today, I changed my mind in favor of a 64 gig 3G. I ordered the 64 gig, it went through no problem, then went into my order status and cancelled the 32 gig. Got email confirmations on both transactions right away.

I didn't find any option to modify and existing order, only to cancel it.

Quoted for truth. Speaking as the latter.

That said, my husband does occasionally get the look on his face reserved for curtain-color discussion when I start yammering too intently about my latest home media equipment project.

maybe they have a sudden increase in supply after selling 120,000 in a day...

Are you picking up at the store or having it delivered? The instructions I sent to modify an existing order were for those picking up at a store.

Home delivery.

The way it worked out for me was simple enough, though. I was a little worried at first because even though I ordered the 64 gig first then went back and canceled the 32 gig, the email notification for the cancellation came immediately whereas the confirmation of the 64 gig order came about 5 minutes later.
