My fiance and I just pre-ordered us the apple tv!!! 3rd generation of course! So excited :) Netflix in everyroom now!

Apple TV:
Do you use your ipad or iphone to control it?
How often do you use it?
Did you replace cable with ATV?
TV SHOWS: I just saw entire keynote speech on apple site. Is it true, they get tv shows NEXT DAY? even the network websites take 3-4 days to post most recent tv episode.

Remote question: Do you find it getting dirty? Do you lose it???

IPad remote app is great for browsing all your cd covers etc and any searching that requires a keyboard, but I think the Aluminium remote is a great design and I always use it for getting my podcast favourites or browsing movies or Netflix. Anything that is 4 or 5 clicks away I use the remote in preference to the iPad remote.

It doesn't get dirty; it's aluminium. We keep one in the kitchen too and you can wipe it clean. Never lost one but it can disappear into a newspaper etc.

I have a Logitech Harmony, so I don't use the Apple remote even though it's awesome looking. I've messed around with using the remote app on my iPhone to control it, but it's actually more cumbersome than my harmony so there's no reason.

I use mine daily. I have about 300 blu-rays ripped and stored on my computer--between those and netflix it's pretty much the main source of video-entertainment in the house.

I had used ATV as a replacement for satellite when I moved recently, and I would have been fine to keep it that way. The Mrs. had to have her lifetime movie network, though...

Also, like I said I don't use the remote, but it is small enough to where I probably would lose it, yah.

I really don't like the remote. Its far too small and far to simple. Just wish there where a few more options on there to control it more intently but ahwell. I've lost it many a time, its just the right size to slip right down to the bottom of my couch.

I generally use my iPad to control it, far better method not even having to go near the GUI, just select what I want to watch as if searching iTunes and on you go. I do think it needs a bit of a thorough grooming to get it to work a bit more nicely, but other than that, this is what has got me buying another when mine broke a few weeks back.

Thanks for your reply! Oh I have never seen the remote in person, I thought it looked white on the internet.

Yes I plan on using my ipad to control it also. heheh

Interesting, so I guess they don't sell the remote separately?? for like $20 lol. Knowing apple they'd try to charge$35 for that tiny thing

I dumped satellite in favor of an atv2. Now all I watch is Netflix and Hulu plus (I'm jailbroken). So I get to watch all my shows in HD and have a lot of children's shows for the kids. I'll probably upgrade to the 3 after a jailbreak comes out so I can continue watching Hulu plus.

nope! They do sell it separate, and it's only $30 ;)

HAHAH I was close ;)

wow you dumped your satelite! how much was that per month???

What does jailbreaking an ATV do??

I use mine every day, not always for viewing online content, mostly for streaming sound and movies from my collection to my TV or Hi-Fi in the bedroom.

I have ordered the 3 as it's 1080p, wouldn't have upgraded otherwise.

I've always loved the Apple TV, but I've been holding off until they have some sort of subscription model. I was really expecting them to announce something like that when ATV3 was announced, but nothing!

I just can't justify cutting Comcast yet, not really into paying 3 dollars for an episode of something every time I wanna watch something.

My satelite was $83 and now I only pay 7.99 for Hulu Plus and 7.99 for netflix.

I jailbroke my atv2 to be able to watch movies from my computer using plex without having to convert them to itunes, and to add in the ability to watch Hulu.

ohh ok. Thanks for reply. How do you only pay 7.99 for netflix?? is that just streaming and not new release dvds???

Ohhh cool. I didnt know it was that cheap!

out performs ATV?! how so?

The boxee can stream a lot more than a non jailbroken ATV can. The amount of streaming apps available on the boxee is close to 100. Then throw in the repositories created by users of the boxee, and the amount multiplies. Navi-X app is awesome, opening the boxee to virtually all streaming material. I got an email from them today. They are recruiting folks with android and iOS backgrounds to join them in app creation for those devices. They are not sitting still either.

i am happy with boxee box. i think it outperforms the atv2 even after the jailbreak.

By outperform I presume u mean it can decode any video thrown at it?
Because when I tried it out, menu navigation was painful. Just not snappy enough

Has anyone's new apple tv shipped yet? I ordered one with a new iPad and the iPad has gone to prepared for shipment but the apple tv is still processing.

Not to highjack the thread, but this comment as me both confused and intrigued....the whole idea of "not having to go near the GUI" is something I am very interesting in...as it would seem to indicated that I don't have to have my TV on in order to navigate my ATV...however, when I attempt to use the remote on my iPad, all I can seem to do is use gestures to control the on-screen ATV menu....what I am not understanding or doing wrong? Thanks.

Nope mine is still processing and the ipad has shipped. I already received the smart cover from the same order.
