Why not negotiate with their carriers to sell a "7 day pre-paid sim" that people traveling can pick up at any Apple Store or authorized dealer selling the iPad?

I'm sure the carriers would balk because it would undercut any insane international roaming agreements they have, but it would sell well. Or is AT&T the only one with insane international roaming agreements?

What would YOU be willing to pay for a weeks access in another country with no hassles?

I think that $15 for 1gb, 7 days would be fair while traveling, and i'd not think twice about picking it up.

They'd do a booming business at the Florida Mall Apple Store - a kiosk at the airport would be better :D

Apple only has so much power. It's a coup that AT&T agreed to no contract data for the iPad. International data roaming is a cash cow for carriers and is priced for business use--not individuals. Maybe there will be a pre paid sim you can get at your destination otherwise you'll have to find wifi.

Is it really that important your iPad be connected at all times while on vacation?

I dont know, i dont go on vacation. :D

But, in reading, yes it is a big deal to international travelers if you reread the threads on people getting the AT&T stuff to work here. A lot of visitors to the Orlando area tend to come for multiple weeks at a time.

For me though, i much prefer my own connection and device for my private data rather than relying on public wifi. I rarely use public wifi for what i really need it for (email). It's a matter of preference.
