As I own some shares in both Google and Apple stocks, I have been noticing that my gains from owning Google shares has been wiped out because of the poor performance in the Apple stock. Basically, before the launch of the iPhone 5 where Apple finally managed to (at least temporarily) stop the bleeding, Apple continued losing market share to Android globally. I have been seriously thinking whether to take some profits off the table for Google and adding it to my Apple holdings, or completely get rid of my Apple stocks. My question is this, do you think that Apple can continue maintain its relevance in the smartphone industry in the future? Or will Apple's iPhone be losing so badly to Google's Android platforms?

I would not be worried if Apple is only facing stiff competition from Samsung, but it seems that Google and HTC are also getting more and more aggressive at selling smartphones as well with their Nexus and HTC One line-ups. I know this may not be the best place to get unbiased opinions, but I would just like to hear your thoughts and decide for myself whether it is a rationale argument or not.

It's exactly like Mac vs PC in my eyes. Apple will stay relevant, but Android is by it's nature going to capture more market share.

Macs still live and I am sure are a profitable department for apple. So will the ios devices.

Apple also has a bunch of cash which is still not going anywhere.

It is silly to think that owning stocks will keep you rich forever. It was only a matter of time before apple's stock fell. The volatility of stocks is why investing in them alone is set up for a disaster.

Maybe sell some of your shares and invest in a little reading material?

Someone mention PCs.

How are PC makers doing.

Compaq
Dell
Packard Bell
HP
E-machines
IBM

Most are either dead, bought out, or sold off their PC unit.

HP are rumoured to be interested in buying Dell, but in all liklihood it will be Michael Dell consortium that buy it.

iOS will always be around. Android may gain more marketshare, but iOS will continue to hold at least a small share of the market.

i think its going to turn exactly into the pc vs mac deal right now...pc hold majority share but mac still has its niche market!

android is going to take over and iOS will take its own niche spot! and i like iOS 7 is going to be the deciding factor!

I thought Microsoft is planning to buy dell

Microsoft gave money to Dell to help them make the transition to private. They'd never risk buying Dell though, you saw what an uproar it caused when they made their own surface tablet, they don't want to annoy the Manufacturers.

with the rebranding, i think microsoft will produce more hardware itself. the only question is how much and how fast this gonna take place. currently microsoft lacks distribution/logistics capabilities for delivering physical hardware so buying Dell maybe is a viable option.
