If a new iMac is announced tomorrow what do you think the specs will be for the base model? Here’s my guess:

23” 4K display
16GB RAM
256GB SSD
T2 chip
4GB AMD 5300M graphics

$1499

Assuming a redesign
- 23" 4382x2465 display (As Apple loves odd resolutions to maintain PPI. Even though straight 16:9 4K makes more sense from a cost perspective. Custom resolutions are pricey to manufacture.)
- 8GB RAM
- 1TB 5400RPM Fusion drive
- Integrated graphics
- 720p camera
- No Ethernet, USB Type A, or SD card reader (Thunderbolt only)
- Core i3 quad core (Possibly Apple's A14 as entry level makes the most sense to introduce ARM for Mac)
- 802.11ax/Bluetooth 5.0

Note that this isn't a wishlist. Just what I think is likely with a redesign.

EDIT: Thought this was the ARM forum...Oops. Disregard. This is what I thought Apple will release in October:

I'm going with an entry level $1,299 iMac:

  • Display: 24” 4K display
  • Processor: Something slightly more powerful than A12Z Bionic [See below].
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Harddrive: 256GB SSD [This is where they'll do the "Tim Cook nickle & dime"].
  • Graphics: Apple's integrated GPU [The 24" won't get a dedicated AMD/NVIDIA GPU, that will be only for iMac Pro].
  • I/O: 4 x USB-C
  • Design: A derivative of the XDR Display

I feel like since the A12Z Bionic was able to do so much on beta software, that Apple won't have much incentive to use a third-party GPU or give a much beefier chip. Being able to do three 4K Streams, at once, in Final Cut Pro, should be ample power for hobbyists (which I believe this 24" iMac will be for).

I'm thinking in Q2 next year, Apple will release the ARM iMac Pro, with a 30" Display, dedicated GPU and beefier processor.
