Thoughts on the processor bump and slight GPU upgrade? Probably nothing revolutionary, but comparing it to the benchmarks of the 128-->256, looks like what 9-10% increase in FPS?

My guess is youll see higher frame rates but not an outstanding difference from the previous model

Well the 128 to 256 comparison you're talking about is the X1600 with 128 or the X1600 with 256. In either case it's still the X1600. NOW though, we're talking about a completely different (and hopefully more powerful) GPU, which also happens to have 512 megs of ram.

Same GPU as the last MBP the 8600M GT. The increase in video memory should allow for higher resolution and more textures. But don't expect a miracle in fps. A slight to modest gain depending on the game. I wish they would have upgraded to the 8700 even under-clocking it for energy savings would have provided much higher performance.

I have the new MBP, 2.5 ghz, 512 8600GT, 4GB ram. I can run Crysis on mostly High settings at 1440x900 with very good frame rate, almost no slow down at all. The only time I get it is when I'm cloaked and I use a scope, seems to knock it down then, but other wise, it's great. Way better than the old MBP I was using.

Which was the old MBP that you had?

yeah

the increase in ram will allow more textures at the same fps b\c you're not offloading to the regular slower ram as much..but fps will be about the same after you increase the texture graphics level to compensate for the increase in vram.

conclusion: the MBP can handle better textures in games, but fps will be constant.

What spec was your old MBP?
