Hello folks,

in the last months I've been developing a keyboard hack for jailbroken iPhones/iPads. Inspired by the Android SwiftKey, it will add a 5th row on top of the default iOS keyboard. The new row contains three word completions or next word suggestions.

Before I started the development, there've been two similar approaches: Octopus and TouchPal. Personally, I find Octopus a bit clumsy to use, and TouchPal doesn't support SwipeSelection and also has no German dictionary. So I decided to write my own keyboard hack. Here's a screenshot:

Since I can test it only on my own device (which is an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.2), I now need beta testers! The hack should also work on older iPhones and iPads running at least iOS 5, but I cannot verify up to now. If you are interested in beta testing, please drop me a line.

For more information, I created a (preliminary) website: predictivekeyboard.fralima.com

Thanks :)

Matthias

Edit: Beta licenses are free, of course!

Edit 2: Please contact me by a private message or my website!

I'd be interested to test it.

Actually, **** it, I'm not buying a licence.

You gotta pay to be a beta tester?! Lol that sounds backwards to me. Shouldn't the dev give out free licenses to beta testers since they're knowingly adding a package which could/will make their device unstable?

Either way, good luck. If anyone uses it please share your thoughts I'm interested in learning how this tweak performs.

Totally agree with you. The dev is foolish. I'm not wasting money on some **** that could render my iPod unstable. Yes I can restore and re-JB, but I don't want to.

You're right, I don't think iLex would work if my iPhone is friggin unusable. Have you ever seen Shark Tank? Imagine I'm mark cuban saying count me out.

Thanks for all who are willing to test, I'll send an message with instructions to each of you.

To clarify it:

I don't want beta testers to pay. The beta licenses are free and can be used forever, even after the beta phase. I updated the website and I hope it is clear now.

I'll beta test it too. I'm dying to get a decent Swype type keyboard for my iPhone.

foobar... since I'm very new in this forum, I'm not allowed to send private messages yet... I'll have to post a couple more messages first... so if you can, please contact me by a private message or my website. Thanks!

Just started using the keyboard. So far OK.

Is there a way to use the keyboard and still use iOS autocorrect function?

Also, be sure to turn off ColorKeyboard if it is installed...

Thank you all for the overwhelming response!

@pocketdoc: Thanks for your feedback. I'm already working on the iOS autocorrect compatibility. For compatibility with the color keyboard tweak, I'll contact the author because I need some technical information from him.

@all: Now I'd be especially interested in testers:
a) running iOS 5.x or
b) having an iPad.

Is there anybody?

Thanks

Matthias

I have iOS 5.1.1 on my iPhones and iPad. I can beta test for iOS 5.1.1
Do you me to PM you my email id ?

I got your PM. Thanks...

Have installed on my iPhone 4S. The auto correct turned off by itself as you have mentioned it is not compatible. I guess i will have to wait for actually using it after i can actually apply the license.

Btw i checked the log file that is being sent to you and i see lots and lots of references of whatsapp. I am not sure why you need whatsapp references in the first place.

Well, I don't need WhatsApp references at all. For the beta version, the syslog daemon is enabled so that I get enough debug information; this will be disabled in the final version.

The keyboard app itself writes out quite a lot of debugging information to the syslog (but I took care that no sensitive/private data like the text / strings you've input will be placed in syslog). Other apps write to syslog as well, I can't influence that.

For easier debugging the last megabyte of the syslog is attached to bug reports.

Edit: Btw: It is possible to turn the keyboard tweak off in the settings menu. The autocorrection is only turned off once during installation, so you can easily turn it on the the settings again.

I just emailed you the same thing i am going to write here...

After the last update of 165 you told me to install, the default email app started to crash on my iPhone and that's why i could not even send you the system log. But in the split second when the mail app was open, i saw that the MD5 field was still blank.

Hope this helps you.

Hey I downloaded the tweak and it didnt work so I uninstalled it, after doing so the tweak is STILL on my iPhone ? I get the three blank boxes

Any suggestions ?

This is known and will be fixed in the next beta release (in 1 or 2 weeks). Go to Cydia, search for the "Keyboard Cache Cleaner" and use it for clearing the keyboard caches. This will probably fix it.

Btw: You're not on my beta testers list; if you've written me an email please contact me again so that I can associate your nickname with your beta license.
