Preferences Folder Vanishes ?

Hi

I am using a 2.4ghz, 8 core, 2010 Mac Pro. System 10.6.6

When I go under my Places section on the left. (Devices, Places, Search For)
I open up my home drive: Go to library: then Preferences. The Preferences folder opens (sometimes) but when I scroll up or down, the Preferences folder disappears or just vanishes. Sometimes it flakes out and flashes on and off the desktop screen for a few seconds? WEIRD!!! only this folder as far as I can tell. It's annoying! This also happened with 10.6.4
Anyone?
