Its true. Despite no one actually yet having actually seen on in real life (only the mocked up piccies on the AppleStore website) ... I actually SAW an actual presinstalled Leopard machine in PC World, Leeds UK.

No. Really. I did!.

There were about six of them huddling .. in unopened boxes .. under a shelf there. And (per usual for PC World) no one was looking at the low-key display - only me. In a rather excitable state. Sad. But true, readers.

Anyway - before the staff whisked them off to their storeroom in case Bill Gates saw `em ... I managed to take a coupla snaps. One showing the outer box (its a Tiger box but has a big black Apple sticker in the corner proclaiming Leopard is preinstalled) and a close up of said sticker.

These were 20" 2.4ghz machines and the sales-droid (Assistant #6) told me "theyd only come in yesterday". Nice. So ... does this mean I just MIGHT be in with a chance of getting one of this batch when my (replacement) iMac is shipped from Shanghai in the next coupla days?. I can hope, can't I?.

Anyway - get over to Leeds if you cant risk it ... dont expect a discount or anything .. (its PC World fer chrissakes!) and coo over them - keep them from being lonely (cos they will be in the least-Apple friendly retailer in the world .. ever) and reassure them that its not their fault theyve not been snapped up .. its the fact that Apple products are only stocked there due to some kind of contractual obligation in those places - not exactly high profile items, shall we say.

But hey!. Come on. Rejoice .. theyre comin' thro' at last!. Hurrah!.:D

pc world in leicester has them to. the funny thing is that my mate works there as as 'the apple guy', he was told by the manager to install vista on them under bootcamp, but when the manager saw how quick it started vista up (faster than any other machine in the store) he made him remove vista from them but he refused to do it. So dont be afraid to restart them and check out vista on them, they also installed some games under vista on them to.

At pcworld they also have ipods sitting out next to the imacs, and he also told me that somebody jailbroke the the ipod touch sitting there and installed loads of 3rd party apps on it to the annoyance of the manager hahahaha

Nice to know its not just me that find the disinterest and knowledge about all things Apple is confusingly pointless. I see your point re superior performance being a negative selling point for them - if folks see Apples then theyre gonna start asking questions. So seriously, I think Apple have said to them - "Flog us a few. mate?" ... have a percentage. To which they'vre replied .. "Yeah, ok. But dont come and see what we're doing with them, will ye?". `Cos if they did .. they'd hit the roof.

My `thusiasm only happened after walking into the Derby branch of Gordon Harwoods. THey've not been open long and I got chatting to this young guru chappy who puts the Geniuses (Geniii?) to shame with his depth of tips and advice and got me hooked there and then.

However cos my daughter is a Student and wanted one .. I HAD to go via Apple this time .. no one can compete with a £100 iPod rebate - a 10% discount and Leopard release combined. My nearest other Apple shop is Sheffield about 40 miles away!.

I think APple should get the good resellers (like GHC) to offer better discounts by allowing them bigger margins - and sales will increase further. Note I didnt say KRCS, there. But thats another story!.

I went into PC World @ Cardiff, Culverhouse Cross a few weeks back and their Apple display was 1 lonely 24" iMac tucked away in a corner.

I think people see the price of a Mac and then see what else they could buy with the same or less money and shy away from them.

S'true enuff!. BUT the fact that PC World dont exactly go out their way to show their machines at their best - that being either crap product desk placement and/or usually a blank screen saver on display.

I really do think its a bizarre company policy to play Macs down. Its as if theyre professionally obliged to show `competition' but translate that as to the letter as they can.

How do you mean?

In my opinion .. having been to both Leeds and Derby KRCS branches. I have found both the display/stock/and Staff approach lacking basically.
Minimal `deals' to rope you in.
Minimal stuff to tempt keep you there.
Minimal enthusiasm to get you back again.

Gordon Harwoods also struggle a bit with the old `deals' compared to AppleStore but get around it by having half decent shop layout and accessories on display to enthralll the newbie (like me)
And their attitude and product knowledge would have swayed me towards them had it not been the temptation of the AppleStore's power of Student Discounts and Free Nano promotions .. oh and superdiscounted AppleCare.

My daughter's need for such items was too strong a pull ... even tho' I know the backup would've been better at the aforementioned reseller. M'lud.

Is that alreet fy'uz?

I got my new imac from the KRCS in Nottingham and i thought it was very good. I got an extra gig of ram preinstalled for free. :)

Well I ve been in KRCS in Leeds and Derby and both are pretty lack lustre.. however the Nottm Broadmarsh KRCS was the best of the three. Theyve now moved to Victoria Centre which I aint bin in yet so I hope theyre still the best of the ones Ive been in.

And a gig of RAM on Crucial is about fourteen quid so its no big thing for them really. Harwoods are giving away a Miglia TV Tuner thingy currently.

I think local dealers are the best for sheer convenience etc but Apple Stores deffo the way to go if some kinda discount is owing.

Trouble is the hassle of machine replacement etc and slow deliveries

Received my new iMac this morning (11/26) at 9:00am, shipped from Shanghai on 11/23. Leopard pre-installed! Came in a Tiger box with no Leopard stickers on it, was very happy when I found no drop in disk!

What ?? Is this really true?:eek:

Do you have any pictures of the installation disk?

Why is this surprising? Am I missing something? Shouldn't all new macs come with leopard pre-installed?
