I think Im going to order an iPhone and go the prepaid route. I still am under contract with Tmobile for another 9-10 months, and dont want to pay $600 ETF.

Here are my questions:

1) Ive read about everything I could find on going the goplan route. Seems that it works for most ppl, but some Ive read say they arent offered the goplans, only says to call the 800# or go to an ATT store. Whats the verdict here? If you enter 999-99-9999 as the SS# will you always get the goplan offer?

2) How exactly does the goplan work if you dont use the iPhone to make calls? Since I still have Tmobile, I intend to use my voice minutes with them, and just use the iPhone for data. I currently have a Blackberry and would cancel data on that with Tmobile.

From my understanding, you pay $29.99 for the 200min voice plan, then $20 data add-on. When you make calls your remaining balance (29.99) goes down. So what if the balance never goes down? Am I charged 29.99 every month for minutes I dont intend to use? Or if I have a balance left do they apply that towards the 29.99?

I used 999-99-9999 for mine and it worked. Some say that AT&T/Apple has disabled this loophole. It's hard to confirm since each of us only get to do it once and the result were mixed.

Yes. You're charged for $29.99 each month even if you never used your minutes. The balance will get "rolled over" for 3 months.

If I want to use iPhone for its ipod+internet functionality, I'd try iActivator.

So let me understand something....the purpose of entering the SS# is to run a credit check to see if you even qualify for a post paid account. If you fail that you can either put down a deposit or you are offered the gophone plans?
So essentially if you pass the credit check you cannot opt for the gophone plans?? What kind of crap is that?
