Preparing my MBP to be sold! Concerns and questions...

Hey so I've just sold my 15'' 2.33ghz MBP to purchase the latest SR mid level update! I'm now preparing it for the handover but I need clarification on a few things...

I'm backing everything up in the Documents folder to an external hdd. When I get my new MBP, would I just have to take the backup from the external hdd and copy it over to the new MBP? and all of my files will work exactly like they've worked before?

The reason I asked is because I have a lot of FCP files and unfinished projects saved in the Documents folder. So when I've backed them all up to the external, install FCP in the new MBP, and retransfer the unfinished FCP projects, will I be able to open all my old FCP projects without any problem?

Check in FCP's prefs for the Scratch Disk settings. There are about a billion different places for settings in FCP, so you're on your own finding that.

Once you've found it, note any folders listed. You've got to make sure you're backing them up, too. Are they folders in your Documents folder? If not, add them to the backup.

While you're at it, back up your entire user folder, but not before removing any music you don't need backed up. No sense waiting for a backup & restore of music you've got an another drive anyway.... and if your main computer is a laptop, your music should be backed up elsewhere, to an external HD, for example.

speaking of music... Yes my music files are on my external and since I've set the iTunes Music Folder on the external too, all my music gets copied twice on it. So when I get the new MBP how do I configure iTunes, to "look" at the external for the old iTunes Music Folder so it can rebuild the library, so I don't have to bother copying all of my music to my iPod, and ripping them with Senuti to rebuild it?
