The last iPhone launch I was on a long layover at JFK Airport. I took the train into town and got my 3GS then later that day I got on a plane to Kyiv,Ukraine.

If it looks like an All day event:

1. Chair
2. Small Cooler
3. iPhone
4. Friends to bring me lunch
5. Extra Batt Pack for the iPhone

That's a good point, anyone waiting in line would be wise to buy as many as apple will allow to flip on craigslist/eBay immediately. Depending on the market it might make your ipad free!

Uhmmm I REALLY DON'T think there will be lines as the iPhone 1G or 3G.

Probably when stores open at 8am....you will see a couple of 20-50 people....but not all day.....

Just bring:

-pants
-sweater
-iphone (mobile)
-starbucks
-$500-$900 for iPad and extras....
-breathmints

A Glock maybe? You never know when those Apple customer stackers would try to steal your stuff..

i don't think anyone would pay $1200 for it straight away. ur dreaming

I seriously doubt the iPad lines will start cueing up days in advance like the iPhone. Where the iPhone was a revolutionary device, the iPad is evolutionary, like the iPod was. Its a device people will want, but not one people, other than Apple fans, will clamor for initially.

If I decide to buy retail (depends on how valuable the gift is: a poster no thanks, a t-shirt maybe, a cover oh yeah) I will wait until maybe 5:30 to get in line. Sure the line might be hella long by then but it will go fast once the doors open. I'll be in my car w/iPad by 6:30 guaranteed. Sure beats waiting hours just to be the first one for no real reason.

I won't have TIME to wait in line on the 26th. I'll be getting ready to leave town with 4 teens to go to part 2 of their search & rescue training.

BUT, one of those teens is the one that "got" the iPad for her birthday back on 2/2. Guess we will have to figure this out (I'm an hour from the store). A pre-order would just rock.

If it goes on sale in the evening, she is going to be out of luck on that day i'm afraid. Unless her Dad would give us the money and we could get it down in South Florida where we will be.

Since I'm waiting for the 3G version, I'm not sure how much of a line there will be for me.

I don't really think there will be much of a line at all since a lot of people are waiting for the 3G version.

Well. The first launch of the IPhone was a mistake in the time. I think 6p
was a bit much. I like the morning release so people don't send an entire day camping at the mall. I know mall security prefers that also.

Since like the first iPhone you don't do anything other than buy the item atvthe store, it seems reasonable the line will move very fast. The real question is if the have enough IPads foe everyone.

An AM launch at store open times mean if the have enough it might at most a couple of hours not counting any line time before the store opens. Since people expect a line, a line will happen.

If it launches at 6pm or anytime after normal opening hours, it will be madness, which is fun but taxing on lots if others not related to the launch like mall staff, other stores, family, etc...

We shall see.

You should probably consider bringing extra money, I'm betting the $499 one sells out quick...

I'd bet more people want a wifi version than a 3G though. Also would bet that a lot of people who want a 3G will buy a wifi version and then dump it just before the 3G ships. They'll probably be able to get near what they paid for it.

That's my plan.
Get Wifi, use it, get rid, get 3G.

I'll tell you what I won't bring... my girlfriend. I don't need her seeing how much of our money that I'm spending on accessories (she thinks the keyboard dock is cheaper than it is).

When the iPhone made its debut in 2007, I took my old cell phone and my MBP to keep me company in line. Made a final call on that old cell phone, had fun playing with my MBP and chatting with others in line..... In 2008, I had my original iPhone, nothing else, in line with me when I arrived at the mall and the line shortly after 5:00 AM. I didn't get up at the crack of dawn for Launch Day 2009, and instead went over to the Apple store later on and joined in the line that was ongoing. It was really cool that at the 2008 Launch Day the mall provided collapsible stools for us to use and later told us we could keep them.

It would be fun if there is a big Launch Day and a line for the iPad, but if not, well, that's OK, too. Since, yes, there will first be the launch of the wireless-only and then a few weeks later the launch of the 3G/wireless, that undoubtedly will make a difference.

However it all plays out in the end, at some point in time I will be the happy owner of a new iPad......
