Prevent synch popups when iPad Air 2 plugged into Mac Mini

When use a Mac Mini with an iPad Air 2 for a n interactive teaching tool. One small annoyance has been each time the iPad gets connected directly to the Mac Mini via USB lightening cable it pops up with windows to sync and such. We would prefer to plug it in and have nothing happen. Thanks!
