Preview freezes constantly

Is anyone else having problems with Preview freezing constantly with the spinning pinwheel?

Even when opening small PDFs, it will freeze for several seconds before it becomes usable again. Then it often freezes when performing any action.

its really frustrating. I’ve never had problems with Preview before. I need to go through PDFs quickly for my workflow and it’s really slowing things down.

Same problem here since yesterday (probably because I opened a bunch of files together), annoying and frustrating! Tried all the solutions proposed here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8212444 and whatever I found through this Google search, to NO avail.

I had the same issue. I had it with Adobe Acrobat Reader and Preview. I deleted ALL files related to Acrobat and the problem is gone.

Found this, it helped me revert to the latest earlier stable build. Now the auto-update feature is freezed, and with build 88.4.172 it's working again!

I went ahead and fired up an old High Sierra (10.13) VM with 2 vCPUs (out of 16 possible) and 2GB of RAM. I opened some large PDFs (50MB and 500 pages each). Seamless and no delays.

I wonder if I should delete the Preview Library files?
