My operating system is OS X. Every time I try to open preview, it keeps trying to open a very large numbers file that I deleted off of my computer. I get the color wheel and am not able to to do anything except force quit the application. I am unable to use preview because of this.

It's a newer "feature" of OS X. Open Terminal and type:

Code:
rm -r /.DocumentRevisions-V100

Then Open Settings and click on General. Click the box that says "Close Windows when Quitting an Application".

Hold Shift while launching the app.

However, remember that Preview will open the documents it had open when you closed it. (Though it should handle deleted documents better, I would have thought. Perhaps something else is the problem?)
