Preview no longer prints PDFs

I've had a Xerox Phaser printer for many years and it's worked seamlessly with my Macs. I currently have an M1 Mac mini with the current Monterey install. Preview will not print PDFs to this printer. I can print JPEGs from Preview. I can print PDFs from Acrobat Reader. So, it seems to be a problem with Preview. The printer dialog box reports the error:

Stopped - 'Filter' failed, 1 page

I've powered off the printer, unplugged it, rebooted the mini but the problem persists.

Any idea what's going on here?

Have you tried deleting the printer and then reinstalling it? If you migrated from a previous system, this can error can occur. Follow these instructions to see if they correct the issue.

Yes, deleted and re-added the printer. I tried printing from another Mac and it has the exact same problem.

Sounds like you should give Apple Support a call to see if they can determine why printing .PDFs from Preview is failing on your systems. It does sound like a bug with Preview, since you get the same result from two different computers.
