I've been living on an El Capitan iMac since 2011 and all I know about music on a Mac is iTunes. Now I'm on an M2 Mini and Ventura and Music instead of iTunes. Back when things "Just Worked" if I wanted to preview a song that I was considering purchasing I could start up iTunes, find the song, and preview it. Is this still possible using Music? It doesn't appear to be unless I sign up for a Music subscription of some sort. Is this correct, or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure that you can, just hit play and it should give you a preview if you aren't signed in.

Just in case you didn't know, the iTunes Store is still available in music - go under preferences and make sure that "show iTunes Store" is checked. Then you'll have an iTunes tab that works just like you're accustomed to.

I wasn't clear on what I was doing. I wasn't trying to preview music that showed up on the app as default (new stuff), I was trying to search for old stuff and play previews. This wasn't working.

It was resolved by going into Settings (where I had both Apple Music and iTunes Store enabled to "Show"), disabling Apple Music, restarting the Music App, and reconnecting Apple Music. Now the option buttons to search in iTunes, Apple Music, and my library have magically appeared and all is good. I can search all three and play previews. Somehow things got crosswise.
