Previous 3.06 vs. current 2.93

Any reason I shouldn't get the previous version of the 3.06 imac with the 880gt 512 card vs. the new 2.93 with GT 120 card (purchasing refurb either way)? I just don't see the value in the additional 300 for the new 3.06.

I will rely mainly on external storage for my Photo libraries, and a majority of my actual "work" is done in Aperture and Photoshop. My wife will put together a couple of iMovies every once in a while, but our current 2.0 imac handles that fine.

My biggest concern initially was not having the ability to run a 30" with this machine, but I have opted for a 27" monitor for extended desktop/TV services, so the previous version will work for that.

Thoughts? Sorry if this has been addressed previously, I have been searching but didn't find any relevant discussion (that doesn't mean it hasn't happened though).
 
Are the prices equal in those Macs? If they are I would get the new one because it can take 8GB RAM while old one can only take 4GB. Also, the new one's CPU runs 20W cooler.

EDIT: 2.93 is 50$ cheaper so definitely get it
 
Get the 2.93 as you have a few upgrades: GT120 is better than the 8800GT, can upgrade to 8GB instead of just 4GB, RAM is DDR3 v. DDR2, and also should have a better LCD in it as well.

Both are great options, but I would go for the 2.93 with 1066Mhz FSB and DDR3. You will feel the difference if you use it for Photoshop or anything processor and memory intense.

This isn't true. The 8800GT is basically the same card as the GT130, which is better than the GT120. The 8800 has 512mb vs the GT120 which has 256.

I say go with the older model if you plan to do heavy graphical or processor intensive rendering...if not, go with the newer model.

The 3.06 model can do 6 gigs of RAM.
 
Just because it is a step down, doesn't mean that it is worse. Look at benchmarks, GT120 is better than the 8800GT in some cases.
