My mom just ordered a recently-discontinued MC270LL/A. The product page says:
"HDMI audio/video output with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution and multichannel audio output (included adapter for DVI output)."
The new Mini will replace an original model Mini, which had DVI output and came with a DVI -> VGA adapter.
My question: can I combine the old Mini's DVI -> VGA adapter and the HDMI -> DVI adapter that the new Mini comes with to connect the new Mini to a VGA monitor? Or do I need to get a Mini Displayport -> VGA adapter?
If this will work for video, will it disable the computer's internal speaker (since HDMI can carry audio)?
I know there are different flavors of DVI; I assume the old Mini has one of the flavors of DVI that includes analog pins as well since the old DVI->VGA converter is a small, simple, cheap-looking thing. If the new Mini's HDMI -> DVI adapter is the digital-only type of DVI then I assume I'm out of luck. I don't even know if this question makes sense (i.e. are there any analog pins HDMI?).
Thanks for any help! Just trying to avoid adding to my collection of expensive, superfluous cables and adapters.
