Till yesterday I was able to see a list of previous recepients when composing an email in Mail.app so I never had to remember an email address. There use to be a dropdown in the To box when I started typing a name.

All of a sudden yesterday, that list seems to have gotten erased. Now I only see a list of addresses I sent email to since yesterday. I definitely didn't click on any "Erase previous recepients list" or similar button so I'm not sure why the list doesn't come up anymore.

Is there a way I could get Mail.app to rebuild that list by looking at my Sent Mail folder ? I have a LOT of email in my Sent Mail - around 1750 dating as back as June 1, 2004 - so I'm wondering if I just hit some limit there.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Would restarting Mail help? How about repairing permissions and rebooting? Sorry that I'm not very helpful but I haven't seen this problem before.

Is, by any chance, your Address Book suddenly gone blank, too. 3 weeks ago, out of the blue, my Address Book was suddenly empty, and it took the Previous Recipients with it, somehow. There has been at least one other mentioning of this here at MR, so a disturbing pattern might be emerging...

Never quite got what happened, but luckily I had a very recent backup of my Address Book data which I've kept up-to-date ever since... :)
