I jail broke my phone about a mouth ago, and I decided that I want to go back to regular. Can I just restore from a back up and be done with? I would restore as new but I have very important texts that I need kept in my phone, so I need to restore from a back up. Is that possible?

Restoring from back-up will just put in your old settings (inlcuding jaibroken ones. So your best option if for you to Restore completely and then set up as new phone.

After that just sync in your information from your Mac/PC,.

He said he doesn't want to do that because he has important texts that he doesn't want to lose. :)

Then I don't see another way. I mean, Medium made a valid point, but the other way of deleting jailbroken settings is using each jailbroken app at a time and reseting settings from that, then go to Cydia and uninstall the app. But still, you are left with Cydia there.

Sure you can uninstall Cydia (I have done it) but the files and configuration still stay behind.

Naturally. Removing all the sticky weird jailbreak settings and tweaks before restoring is a must. :) Especially if a restore from a backup is called for/needed.

That can also be a way, I just skimmed thru his post and gave out the easiest way possible... well, next time ill be careful

What if I restore as new, then restore as back up? Or will that import all the jail break settings also? I mean I don't really mind I just want to be ready if a 3.1 comes around. What happens if 3.1 comes around and I just update without restoring?

You can't restore from backup after initially setting it up. Upgrading to stock 3.1 when it is released through iTunes is a bad idea (if you care about an unlock) because it can update the baseband, and prevent the exploits that ultrasn0w uses from working. Always check here before updating your phone when a new OS is released.

Not worried about unlocking my phone as I'm going to keep it with AT&T and do not plan on unlocking and selling.

Then if you have no plans for an unlock nor care about jailbreak, I see no reason why not use a stock .ipsw from Apple.
