I've got an AppleTV 2G, plus a Macbook, iBook G4, and a Windoze Xp laptop. Previously I had successfully JB'd the ATV with my MacBook using Seas0nPass, and actually successfully installed Plex on it. In the midst of trying to install NitoTV, I accidentally munged up my AppleTV rootuser login info by trying to change the default password (Alpine) to something else. I believe I made a mistake of using my iBook G4 to SSH after I used my MacBook (somehow they interact with the ATV using SSH differently, I guess).

Anyways, so I made the mistake again of trying to start over. I restored the ATV, eventually to 4.3.1 (and I did not save any SHSH blobs), and waited for a new JB to come out, which it has. Problem - now Seas0nPass won't work (can't get it into DFU mode), GreenPoison either crashes (segmentation error) or fails after DFU mode is entered, and PwnageTool won't do it either (does not get DFU).

Can anyone help? What have I done wrong? Did my previous JB of ATV and then restoring it somehow render it permanently unbreakable? Is there something going on with my MacBook (a software conflict of some kind? I've tried turning off my firewall, running JB tools as Admin, etc). HELP!!!!

..... so..... any ideas?

As an aside, I have a suspicion that this is a software conflict issue of some kind - like, a piece of network software, or something, that's rendering the JB process impossible currently. I'm just not sure what it is. My MacBook is running the latest 10.6 build currently. One crucial piece of info is that I believe I ran the JB when I was running Seas0nPass on an essentially virgin MacBook. THEN I used the migration assistant to migrate a lot of stuff from my 10.4 iBook onto the new MacBook. THEN I had trouble.

Are their known software conflicts out there with running JB software for the ATV2G?

It really shouldn't matter what computer you used. I have had much better luck with pwnage tool than seas0npass. And even though the software tells you to unplug the power cord, I personally seem to have better results with the power plugged in.

I had similar issues w/ my ATV2 after Jailbreaking recently. I had originally jailbroken w/ season pass. The w/ 4.3.2 I used Pwnage tool. Worked fine. Then I wanted to use season pass and it would not let me JB at all. Even after restoring w/ itunes. First restore ATV2 in itunes. The in Pwnage tool put ATV2 in Pwned DFU mode(4th square on right in top row.) Then use season pass to JB. I suggest just using the macbook. Good luck.

OK, thanks - so, you're saying use the Pwnage to get it into DFU (but not to run JB software), THEN switch to Seas0nPass, and complete the JB process that way? Could you be more specific, how would I do that?

I'm really grateful for the advice - I feel like I've spent quite a bit of time on this. It makes it all the more frustrating that I had previously JB the box with actually very little problem and had even gotten Plex and NitoTV up on it.....

Yup use pwnage tool to get into pwned DFU mode (which is different than "regular" DFU mode). fourth button on top right of pwnage tool. Dont JB w/ pwnage just use to get in pwned DFU mode. Then use season pass to JB. Once an apple tv gets jb for the first time it has to be put in pwned dfu mode to upgrade again. good luck!

edit---use the custom bundle already made by season pass to restore thru itunes. hold option then click restore to get the option to load your custom fw. You just have to find where season pass put the custom fw and point itunes to it. I think it was placed in your home folder.

I totally disagree. Use pwnage tool for the whole thing! It installs NitoTV and open SSH automatically when you restore using the Custom Firmware. Seas0npass is clean and looks pretty, but for full functionality immediately after restoring, pwnage tool is the best way to go.

That's all well and good but pwnagetool doesn't work for me.... won't get into DFU jailbreak mode.

Having used all three of the jailbreaks i would say use Seasonpass i find it much more stable and have no issues with it at all now :)

(using atv flash with it)

How did you end up doing it?

PwnageTool RC6. Just by chance I decided to try and leave the power cord in when I ran the tool (you have to unplug the cord when it tells you to in order to initiate DFU mode, but then remove the plug again right away). Then it worked, flawlessly.

I had a few hiccups installing XBMC, some minor errors which I had to fix on the spot, but that got done right away.

I will say I'm debating going to PLEX, mainly because I'd like to be able to run Netflix Streaming within XBMC (and apparently that can't happen right now due to Silverlight limitations in ATV2G and the fact I use OSX). But that's for another thread.
