Okay folks, looking at someone offering a G4 PowerMac for sale around here. I thought I might jump on it for the right price.

Specs:
1.4GHz Sonnet CPU Upgrade, 2MB L3 Cache
1.25GB PC100 RAM (1x512, 3x256)
~40GB HDD, not sure on this, doesn't matter since I have a bigger drive waiting for it
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB GPU
6x Superdrive
USB 2.0 4 port card

Seems like a pretty tricked out G4 that would run well as a file server and should run Leopard smoothly. How much should a fair offer be?

If it's a Sawtooth or DA (and judging by the ram, it probably is), $150-$250 should be about right IMO :p

~$200 chip upgrade
scaterred RAM
Cheap Video Card
small HD
average DVD-R
I'd say it's hardly worth more than $500 at this point

Probably being generous

Just out of curiosity, what was original machine (Sawtooth, Quicksilver, DA, MDD)?

Really? I thought maybe $250 on the low end, but $150 would have to be a steal!

you might get more than 250 out of it on ebay, but I seriously doubt if anyone here would be willing to go higher......especially if it is a ST/GE/DA.

QS & later maybe $300-$400

You could get more by parting it out......repair/upgrade parts are always in good demand !

CPU alone is worth a lot on ebay. I just sold a 1.1 ghz processor upgrade for a powermac g4 on ebay for $190. I think it should have gone for a bit less but the ram and the video card a lot of value. I think more realistically you should offer $400. I'm sure the guy can make more money by parting it out but if he wants to sell it as a whole that's a good starting price.

They're nice sturdy machines. Try hard to get it!

Alright, just bought it for $300. Picking it up Monday.

I figure the CPU alone is worth $200+, and the video card is a 128MB Radeon 9000 which has to be worth $125 or so on eBay. Not to mention a load of RAM, OEM Superdrive, etc.

If I decide it wasn't for me, I'll part it out and make some cash.
