Ok im a little bored at work so i did some price comparison of new MacPro entry version($3000) to self-build ones.

CPU - Xeon E5 Quad Core. ($300)
I have no idea why Apple is offering Quad Core for workstation model. Like seriously??

GPU - 2 x AMD FirePro D300 ($1100)
D300 is similar to FirePro W7000 but has lesser memory. Not a bad rendering gpu but i expected better. Also why only 2GB???

Memory - 3 x 4GB 1866mhz ($100)
12GB aint too bad. But for high-end computings, i expected more.

Storage - 256GB PCIe SSD ($230)
I was little surprised to see they went for PCIe version but whatever. Even SSDs are very cheap nowadays. Weird to see Apple offers lower capacity than 512GB.

Motherboard - Apple mobo ($250)
I have no idea what kind of motherboard they'll be using since its custom. But probably one of cheapo motherboards they been using in the past. I priced it little higher since its custom made. Nothing else.

Case - Trashcan Case ($100)
Pricing for computer case is all about how much metals they used it on the case. Since its small factor, i doubt it should cost more than $100.

Power Supply - No idea ($100)
E5 quad uses 80-100 watts. And GPU uses 180-250 watts each. So they provably gonna use around 650-750 watt PSU.

if we sum up the prices, its $2200.
So now, some people might think $3000 price tag is a ripoff. And some might think its ok since they also get services and such. But my problem with the new MacPro is the choice of components. MacPro is used by professionals. And most likely designers/editors. And having only quad core on the CPU is just plain stupid. Plus crossfired GPU that only has 2GB memory!!! Most people dont know this but if you SLI/Crossfire GPUs, their memory doesnt add up. Basically if you crossfire 2GB GPUs, they can only use 2GB. And paying $1000+ on them is just simply ignorant.

Well these are my thoughts. I guess i should get back to my work lol. Let me know what you think about this. Think its overpriced? Or you think im ranting for nothing? Leave a post! :)

Yes I can clearly see your effort trying to defend Apple when I never mention my opinion about the price. If you have no idea what you just read, just press backspace instead of going full-retard.
