So I was in the SF Market St store (i'm on vacation there, but obviously had to mozy into the Apple Store) and overheard someone using a display iPhone to call someone (now there's free wifi AND telephones at the Apple stores...hmmm). Anyway, I heard her saying something to the effect, "I'm going to wait until the price cut next month before I get one."

Anyone hear anything about that? I definitely haven't... I don't think El Jobso would do that SOO soon, right?

Price cut? Apple? New product?

BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Actually there was a price cut. After I bought my iPhone, somebody slashed me with a boxcutter out of jealousy.

Not Really.

It was probably a comment made based on speculation. It took, what, at least a year before they cut prices on the iPod? People thought Jobs was crazy for launching the iPod at its original price. Hell I STILL think they're crazy for introducing the iPhone at such a high price. Yet, I paid it.

There MIGHT be a price correction of about $100 or so after a few months, but beyond that, Apple will likely maintain the price point with each new product cycle by adding new features, more storage, etc.

Every other person who walks into my office and talks about the iPhone says "I'll just wait till the price drops" or till its free with contract.

They have no clue about anything Apple. Thats not how it works in these here parts.

Plus, discounts are for products that are not selling. Anything you can move 270k of in one weekend is in no need of discounting.

I'm not so much interested in a price cut as I am in upgraded features. How often does Apple release software updates for their products?

Maybe she was talking about a MacBook Pro price cut. Yah, yah, that's it.

Hey, I saw on MR that there might be a MacBook Pro price cut coming next month.

Thats like the people who said they would wait for the razr to come free after contract. Then after waiting 2 years for it to reach that price and finally getting it, they realized its the most garbage phone ever made.

I doubt the phone will ever be free after contract and I think the only time the price if going to drop is if they introduce a new one.

I dont think they'll drop the price for at least a year and thats probably by $100.
Not worth the wait IMO. Its a great device.

She was probably talking about a sweater at the GAP. They're always slashing prices until shirts are $.08.

i hope the prices dont drop soon, i dont want to be proven wrong by all the people who told me i was crazy for getting it so soon. I got the same argument from people " i'll just wait untill its free with a new contract" Im pretty sure that will never happen.

released the ipod at $399 in 2001, less than two months after 9/11, in a declining market. consumers were afraid to spend money. and still, the ipod didn't see a price cut. in fact, a more expensive $499 10 gb model came out, and it sold. i think the iphone will be sluggish for a few months, but i'm sure it'll be a success. price cut? maybe, but not for a year at least (my opinion).

Haha it's all wishful thinking. People keep telling me they're just going to "wait a few months for the 2nd gen". Or, they "heard the price was going to drop by Christmas."
I feel like these are the same people that complain Apple products are overpriced, and then they think the iPhone is going to get a price cut.

Apple. Price Cut. New Product.

You know the answer to that.:)

P.S. - If unsure, repeat these words as follows a couple more times.

I agree with the other posters that a price cut is unlikely and the idea of any FREE Apple product is absurd.

This is classic Apple...

The price will probably remain the same, but the product will have vast improvements (including software) to keep the momentum going.

(now if they could just upgrade the phono jack with software... I'm ready to drill mine)
