Price cut on refurb iMacs?

I noticed. Has anyone ever bought a refurb? Do they normally come in good condition?
I just saw this out there on the store also.
If they are indeed the returns for the freezing and the gradient problems, does anyone know what the fix was for these? New hardware, software, both?
I've been waiting for the right time to pull the trigger on the 24" 2.8 version, although I was ready to settle for the 1,799 model. With the price reduction here, is would be stupid not to get the high end.
I know that Apple stands behind the refurbs. I purchased a refurb iPod and it showed up pretty much DOA. They replaced it within two days with a new model, not another refurb.

im kinda nervous about getting a refurbished imac. i got a brand new ipod in 2004 and the scroll wheel stopped working and apple sent me a refurbished ipod and it stopped working in two days! i sent that one back and they sent another one but as soon as i got it i sold it. the thing is i really cant wait and want to switch to an imac soon! the price is so tempting. *sigh*

My refurb has been perfect,with no gradient problem. I decided on a refurb based on my reading here,and I'm thrilled. I switched from a PC,so I'm still steep in the learning curve.

They're about to update it. (Don't let me stop you from buying one, they've got some awesome price there, wish I got mine for that price...)
My white iMac is a refurbish, and by looks you wouldn't tell it was.
It came in pretty much new condition, from the keyboard to the mouse, there really wasn't one thing I could point to at all.
The only problem I have with it that it came with a noisy fan or hard drive, but that could happen with a new.
I can't see myself not buying a refurbished now, there really is little reason not to.

The white 20'' also has a more expensive (and better quality) LCD panel, than the Alu iMac. The 20'' white imac uses an S-IPS panel. The 20'' Alu uses a TN-Panel. That difference is nothing to sneeze at it, and definitely makes the white 20'' a better deal. imo.
Good point although I would have to say probably way more for the former than the latter. Since the freezing issues have now been pretty much fixed that would take care of that.
It would definitely be rolling the dice as far as a gradient was concerned though, especially on the 20". I would definitely try to find a white one if a 20" refurb is what one was in the market for.
I just bought myself a white 20" refurb (should be coming today). Literally the ONLY reason I bought the white one was because of the matte screen. The better panel was a very nice "extra" but if the alu had a matte screen I would have bought that one.
All this waiting is killing me...I'm a clic away to get the 24" 2.4 refurb....must resist !

I'm thinking it means they have more Alum iMacs from high initial returns due to defects, and not from the .16 Ghz processor speed difference. I may be wrong, though.
Actually, I decided to spring for the white refurb myself.
First one was crap.
Second one is flawless. Screen is infinitely superior to the new 20 inchers for photo editing, etc. I love it, I would never trade up.
That, and without question my next mac will be a Mac Pro or contemporary equivalent; I like the idea of 4 internals and functionally infinite RAM (for my applications, anyway...).
As to the quality of refurbs, Apple does seem to plug their refurbs pretty hard. All I had to do was make a phone call and everything was square, they overnighted my next refurb in a jiff. Wonderful machine, complaints = 0.
I'll never buy new again, I saved almost 400 bucks this way.
I have been looking into a refurb macbook pro but on my budget it will take me a couple months to get it but is there any other place where I can get it a bit cheaper(Not ebay though).
