So I went by my local store to take a look. First off the 11 is stunning! But I ended up getting the 13 base. Why? It's a better deal.

Let's eliminate the 64 GB, I think that's too small nowadays. So it was between the 11 with 128 GB or the low end 13 also with 128 GB.

For $100 more you get a bigger screen, better screen, faster prosessor, sd slot, longer batt life.

Had Apple kept the gap at $200 I would have left with an 11, but I couldn't justify it.

Thoughts? Any one else thinking the same thing?

Also, is 64 GB enough space for the 11? Maybe I should make another thread :)

Apple are very clever, they always make 'the next one up' seem to be a better buy. I think the best value in both sizes is the base models with 4GB ram if required.

If you're just going to be using the MBA for Office, light gaming, music(depends on the size of your library), email, Internet, etc. 64GB is more than enough.

Agree! I think ordering the base 13 with 4GB +$100 is what I'm going to do. Agree with OP that the prices are a bit out of line. Makes me madder that you have to take on more hdd space for the 2.13 processor option.

Same thing happened to me. I bought a 11 brought it home loved it but having only 50 GB to play with was to small. If it had the sd slot I would of been ok. I then returned it and thought about getting the upgraded 128 with 4gb of ram. Then I thought man the base 13 is only $50 more has a better processor, more screen, just ass thin, faster internals, sd car slot, and two hours more battery life. So I walked out with the 13 and Im happy.

I personally recognized the 13" as a better "bang for buck" type value, but since i'm getting this is a second computer (when my primary is an already mobile i7 MBP 15"), my main focus was on getting an ultra portable, not on CPU.

So while I'd agree that the 13" is a fairly no brainer if you're getting it as a primary machine, or as anything other than being ultra portable, the 11" was really the only one I was interested in.

You are also correct. The base MBA 11 is perfect but as soon as you add an option it really starts getting hard to justify the cost. The MBA 11 is going to sell much more than apple predicted....its that damn good!

I think we will see that happen quite a lot. Once people get over the sheer wow factor of the smallest ever mac with the 11, there could be a fair bit of buyer remorse IMO. I am not putting down the 11" in any way, I think its a great product and commend apple for giving people the option.
