Price reductions for the Mini coming soon? :)

Apparently Intel is slated to slash prices on the Core Duo chips sometime in May.

That's the good thing about going with the manufacturer of processors with the superior architecture, with IBM and Freescale they can keep flogging Apple for millions of dollars selling poor Steve and friends obsolete junk for top dollar!

But with Intel such price cuts come not only regularly, but are common knowledge to all too

Hopefully there will be a speed bump during then!

According to that chart, the chips in Mini are not being reduced in price (at least the 1.6Ghz Core Duo isn't, the Core Solo isn't on that list). So I guess no price reduction, but a cheaper upgrade path for those willing to pull apart their Minis to replace the CPU.

Apple price cut LOL! You know were 4 days into april now right? Nah Apple will just make more profit, unless mini sales are very poor we wont see any price reductions soon....

I'm not so sure about that. Now that they are using the same chips as the competition, they may be more responsive to market forces. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think they will leave the 1.6GHz at the current price. It's the same price as the May '06 1.83GHz will be. That means they're either going to discontinue it (meaning faster machines) or drop the price (either meaning cheaper machines or more money for Apple).

Given what Apple have done in the past, I imagine we will see a processor bump rather than a price cut. I don't think we'll see a cheaper Mini until Intel release Core based Celerons.

Some revisions are just price cuts or minor lineup shuffles (processor remains the same), like the eMac revision in late 2003.

But I agree, Apple hasn't cut prices in general. I imagine more likely they'd keep the price the same but offer some other incentive, like more RAM (unlikely), a free printer (very likely), or something. On the other hand, the mini does seem to have exceeded its original price target in the Intel transition, so Apple may want to get it back down to $500-700 for marketing reasons.
