I always purchase refurbished straight from Apple. This next purchase will be my fourth refurbished Mac from Apple.

For whatever reason, I never did figure out how the pricing corresponds to release dates. I've been eyeballing the 14" M1 Pro 8/14 Core 1TB, but I wonder if its price will go down once new MacBook Pro models come out this season. And, is it reasonable to expect the same model with the M2 Pro to be only $200 more?

I have bought a number over the years, and the maximum discount has never been more than 15%. They seem to just ride this out until the end. For example, I remember when the 2014 Mini was discontinued I got a new 2.8ghz/gb model in a B&H Photo "blowout" sale for $500. Apple was still selling the exact same version for about $900 at the refurb store, which was 15% off the cost of new.

I know that they were discounting some of the Apple Silicon refurbs at even less than 15%, which was unusual. But I'd be surprised if they every offer more than a 15% discount on a refurb. That would be unprecedented in my experience. Would be interested if anybody else has seen discounts over 15%.

I’m more interested in learning about whether or not the release of new models has an immediate effect on existing refurb models.

I follow the refurb prices pretty closely and I've never noticed any price change correlation to new product releases. They're based on the device's original price. Generally it's 10-15% on Macs, but iPad and iPad discounts can be greater. There's some iPads now that are up to 25% and some iPhones up to 35%.

Understood, which is why I gave the example of the 2014 Mini immediately after the release of the 2018 Mini. I bought one from B&H Photo for $500 while the refurb store was still charging $900, which was 15% off the original price.

But who knows what might happen next? In the past though, I think you're more likely to find "deals" on new Macs from discount resellers than Apple Refurbs.

That's what I have also seen.
