Pricing help on a 5,1

I am looking at selling a 5,1 Mac Pro. Its great condition, only used for a little over a year. It has the 2.8 Quad Core, dual 5770's and 32gb of OWC memory and the standard 1tb HD.

What have you guys been picking these up for or selling them for? I was thinking about $1500 with everything.

You should also mention if it has Apple Care and original packaging or not. ACD or headless?

I got around (converting from Sterling) $2200 for my 5,1 6x3.33, 5870, 12Gb (plus original 3Gb), 1Tb with no AppleCare but with original box. I paid UK Insured and Courier shipping.

I have the original shipping box, no Apple Care and no displays, and the original 3gb of memory as well.

Check ebay completed listings for an overview for what the market rate is, and trend. Also worth looking at places like macofalltrades.com for base machine rates. Your price doesn't seem too out of line, but you might get a little bit more for it. Dual processor 2009s are around a thousand - 1100, without the ram or the graphics cards. Your machine is a bit newer. So I don't think you'd want to go too much lower.

Daniel, I'm suprised the UK price was as low as that, as I've seen a lot of machines upgraded like yours going for much more. Maybe they are trending down this far past the nMP launch.

I consider it a good deal - but I've seen a few similar.

I wish I could come across a deal like that one. And I thought I had it good when I bought a problematic 2006 Mac Pro for $200, and fixed it with a new HDD ($10), GTX 760 ($175) and an Airport upgrade ($20). Life just isn't fair. Oh well, it trumps most Mac Pros and PCs from it's time...

So the market does not seem as stong as I thought. I am thinking it will be hard to get $1300 for this. And I might have better luck if I pull the 2nd 5770, doesnt seem like a popular option.

Dual processor machines probably hold slightly more value longer given they can be upgraded to 12-core beasts

Why are you selling it after a year, anyway? If you have any use for it, you can upgrade the cpu to a fast hex core and that is a pretty nice machine

As for popular gpu, it depends on the user, but nvidia still have lots of the video/grading market (outside fcx)

I upgraded to a nMP at work and this has just been sitting in the box for months...

I can see the dual CPU machines doing better, and the people that need real graphics power going different routes. I had the 2 cards just to support a high number of monitors, nothing graphic intensive.
