Looking at getting a Mac mini, was wondering if apple drop their prices the longer a given model is on the market or will it stay the same price through the release of the next gen model?

stay the same price until the day of the new release ones, then they disappear into oblivion.

Apple does not discount their products ( aside from super small promitions). Even third party retailers get Apple products for only a few percent discount. If you want the best possible deal get an Apple product with a student ID, that will net you $40 and that's as good as it gets for consumers. The Mac mini has a very slim profit margin anyways and is more of a product to attract new users not make money.

Try B & H Photo - they discount slightly, offer AppleCare for $54 and throw in a free copy of Parallels 8.
