iPhone (Original) [2007] $599 to start (4GB model)
Priced dropped by Apple by $200, 2 months later because customers were not getting subsidized by AT&T, Apple was getting a subsidy from initial partnership

iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 [2008-2010]
$599 starting price non-contract pricing

iPhone 4S, 5, 5S, 6, 6s, 7 [2011-2016]
$649 starting price non-contract pricing

iPhone 8 [2017]
Starting price $699

iPhone Xr [2018]
Starting price $749

There were several period of time where the new base model did not go up for YEARS.
Now... for 2 years in a row... we have had price increases. Makes no sense to me.

Wow, only 25% more than a 3G for way more phone. Adjusted for inflation they’re not priced so differently. Way to go Apple!

I would really like to think that this XR is more comparable to a 8+ than a regular 8. Just my opinion, therefore there is actually a price drop!!!!!

I will be saving money getting my wife a 64gb XR as I assume the monthly payments will be a bit less than her 128gb iphone 7 plus. Just a little bummed there is no gold or rose gold color for her. White will have to do.

Wow if only salaries went up with inflation.

Guess what, they DONT. Stop making excuses for Apple

All of these phones are overpriced. But OP was comparing models.

A 128 GB Xr is cheaper here than my 6s was 3 years ago.

My salary increases in the same position surpassed inflation in all of the last 6 years. Buy this isn’t really a basis for arguing iPhone pricing either way.

Guess what, the Xr the equivalent of the SE or the 5C from years back. They were all budget models of the main flagships.

The "this is cheaper than my 6S 3 years ago"
I really really hope you're not comparing parts now to 3 years ago and use that as an argument. Also, the 6S now is also cheaper than it was 3 years ago so I don't really know the point of your argument is.

I was talking for about hardware. You’re talking about market positioning. That’s the difference between our posts.

I wasn’t doing a spec or feature comparison. So no, I wasn’t comparing parts. If I did do that I have a feeling the XR would win.

LOL. $600 in 2007 adjusted for inflation is ~$729 today.
