Print Center's fascinating resurrection

Seeing the Print Center application bothered me a bit — it looked oddly familiar. Sure enough, after some digging, I found out that there was a Print Center application introduced in Mac OS X 10.0 (Cheetah), which served the OS through Tiger, then was discontinued/deleted in Leopard. It have made its return in macOS Sonoma.

Here's a screenshot of the Print Center application (icon and application) running in Mac OS X 10.1 (Puma). Kind of fascinating. I wonder why Apple decided to bring back that application, which was long-discontinued, especially with the gradual disappearance and need of printers?

And compare that 2001-era screenshot to 2023's Sonoma...

am wondering that too. what's the point? so perhaps it will disappear in the next beta (or 2).

at least, if they're going to bring it back, they could aqua-fy the GUI.... 🤔

Thank You for your post. I hadn't noticed the change. I reported in an earlier post, that when clicking on the printer alias I keep on the desktop, it no longer opened a dialog box with information I sometimes need. Print status, job progress, device information, etc. This information is now available in Print Center. I have just assigned it to the dock. Thanks again👍🏻
