I bought a cheap printer for $30 new. Figured when it needed ink, I would just throw it away and buy another. Sure enough, it will be $40 for cartridges.

Anyone recommend a cheap printer that is cheap to operate?

Mutually exclusive terms, my friend. Why d'you think they sell the printers at a loss anyway? Lexmark is the worst. Canon seems to be the best on ink cost - but there is considerable variability across the models of every brand.

If you want black and white printing only, a small laser will cost you less in the long run than an inkjet.

And yes, it was a Lexmark. Not a bad printer but I just found out the sell them with 50% full cartridges.

Canon makes awesome printers and the cartridges are easy to refill!
I've been using the same set for over 6 months now.

Lexmark = Gotcha!

You can look that up in just about any dictionary:p

Yeah, but for $30...who cares. Part that irritates me is that I have to find another printer now. Can buy the same thing for $30 again, but the nearest store is 100 miles away.

I have the canon PIXAMA IP3000 nice printer. Its was $75 here in Canada, so you should be able to get it for 50-60 US and they are good prices for ink.:)
The printer does duplex, has 2 trays. Nice printer, auto power on and off.
