Here's my scenario. Sitting in my easy chair, with my Airport Extreme Router on,( giving me Wireless N speed ). I select a URL page on my Ipad and now I want to print it. How do I do it? Also, can I convert it to a PDF and print it later? I figure Pages has a print capability, but I want to print a random URL page. I currently have a printer setup with my main computer connected via usb cable to my printer with Bonjour(vista) installed. I can print wirelessly with my other computer also which is a laptop. Bonjour found my printer and installed it on my laptop. I use a PC and a program called Robprint to print out what is on my computer screen using the PrtScrn button on my keyboard.

Apple have sadly not confirmed if the iPad is capable of printing - guess we will only find out on Sat!!

Like I said in other threads, I think I heard something about this. Oh look, I just did an internet search. I should have done this a long time ago.

Ars Technica (2-1-10): http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...hints-of-video-calls-handwriting-keyboard.ars

Finally, we have already heard word that Apple plans to enable the iPad to print to networked printers. The current 3.2 SDK beta includes APIs for converting to PDF, and at least rudimentary early work on a printing API. There also appears to be fairly robust capabilities for accessing Bluetooth and USB devices, but it's not clear if the support is merely there to enable access to just Apple Wireless Keyboards and the Camera Connection Kit, or if the support can be leveraged for other devices such as USB storage, for instance.

Who knows if this is in the master build. It will probably be leaked a day or two before it goes on sale. We'll know for sure soon enough though. I'm really hoping for it, but part of me expects it in OS 4.0 this summer. I hope my feeling is wrong, but I can live with it until then. School doesn't start back up until September anyhow.

I also hope the mention of file uploads in Safari comes true as well. This is sorely needed.

There's an app for that...

ePrint

One of the things it prints is 'web pages'...but you'll have to make sure your printer is compatible....they also have a 'free' version.

PRINT (their caps not mine :) )
same as eprint but with less choice and costs more.

There are lot's of other 'print' utilities currently out...some by the hardware manufacturers themselves. They seem to work 'ok' but are VERY picky about the printers they support. All of the ones I looked at had HORRIBLE reviews...but 99% were "...one star...didn't work with my printer..." So..YMMV..

I don't see Apple leaving us in the lurch with this long...BUT>>...They were really pushing the 'send it to iwork.com' or 'export it to your desktop'...I never heard them say anything about printing. Then again, the iWork video showed some very detailed page setup details...I can't believe it's got all that and we STILL have to 'email it to ourselves'....look for a fix fairly early. They probably want to work us up to it without canibilizing imac sales...think>?

ActivePrint?

Found this app. Looks like it will work on Ipad, but they do not mention URL pages. I sent an email to the company asking if the program will print URL pages. Will post reply.

Hopefully its a nice suprise, its gotta be a matter of time though with iWorks looking fantastic.

If it had print function it really could be a desktop replacement for SOME people with basic needs

(Just throw in ability to browse networks - OK im asking too much now!!)

Print by EuroSmartz

There is an app in the store by EuroSmartz that says it will work with the Iphone 3.0 software. It was last updated on March 10th. It can print screen shots, mail and webpages. It looks like the app I need for my Ipad. I sent a note to the company asking if it will work on the Ipad. Will post. Has anyone used this product on their Iphone?

I use this and it works great - i actually use it with the app "Notebooks" most of the time.

The "downer" is the server side component, but it is a solution for now. I do hope to have some sort of native printing to a printer on my net at some point. Or the allowance of the Eurosmartz product to get into apps easier to offer a solution.

Reply from Eurosmartz

Just got a reply from Eurosmartz. They said that their apps will work with the Ipad and that they have created apps specifically for the Ipad and they are not simply "blown up" Iphone apps. They are currently with Apple awaiting approval. I am not sure if they got them in on time for launch day. Since my Ipad is not arriving until late April, if someone downloads this app for the Ipad, please review it and post. They told me that "Print Central" and "Print n Share" would be apps that I need.

I shall be testing this on Saturday!

http://appshopper.com/utilities/docprinter - $9.99 to $5.99

(I have print n share)

Air Sharing by Avatron supports printing pdf, images, plain text and html. I hope they have an iPad version in short order. I love this app on my iPhone.

Could you clarify what you mean by 'URL pages' and why this is a specific printing scenario? (I tried google. I've never heard this phrase before.)

Do you mean web pages?

One thing that the video tours explicitly showed/discussed in the iWork apps was the ability to Export a document as a PDF. This functionality was not mentioned for Safari but you never know.

URL "Pages"

I really mean webpages. I know Iwork can export and convert documents to PDF, but how do I convert a webpage to a PDF? I use Adobe Acrobat on my main computer, but I am pretty sure it is not available on the Ipad OS.

Update from Eurosmartz: They told me that I would also be able to print to my home computer through my 3g connection when I am on the road.

Not sure about converting a webpage to a PDF per se, but they did say you could read pages that you've downloaded (i.e. store locally to read offline).

URL (Uniform Resource Locator) actually refers to the address (e.g. www.google.com), not the page itself. Just for info's sake. May get more replies if you edit your title.
