Printing Address Labels on a Mac.

Hi, On my iMac I set up my addresses in Contacts so I could print some address labels but when I went to print it didn’t show any Avery templates to use on my Brother HL-1112 Black & White Laser printer ( all 46 templates for laser printers didn’t show in contacts, all started with 3 or 7 ). Do any of you guys print address labels using a black & white laser printer on a Mac ? If so do you have any advice on the best & easiest way to go. John.

There is an online tool from Avery to make labels, too.
I prefer the desktop version https://www.avery.com/software/design-and-print/desktop
Occasionally I need it to create templates for address label numbers that I don't have physically available.

Even without that Avery app, it should work (tested with macOS Sierra 10.12.)
-> in Contacts.app -> Select the addresses to print -> File -> Print… -> Show Details -> Style: Mailing Labels
-> Layout -> Page: choose Avery Standard or Avery A4 and see if the needed template is existing
-> If not, select Page: Define Custom… and setup the label template that you need

I'm thinking about buying a Dymo label writer or a similar special label printer, but as I use windowed envelopes and a stamp for my address, I just need labels every now and then. For that occasions I started to utilise whole sheet stickers that I can cut anywhere to sizes that I need. Usually I make these labels with InDesign or they are already existing PDFs.

I have since been in touch with Brother and they have informed me that I can only print on plain paper so I think I can forget about printing address labels. ( I couldn't win an argument ). i also went onto Avery website & it said they are doing away with the Desktop Version & are now only using the online version.

There might be reasons like paper weight, temperature or fuser for labels not working. If you are still going to try, in the worst case the labels would get stuck, rendering the HL-1112 defective. To minimise that risk, I'd recommend unperforated whole leaf labels, as they are less likely to loosen themselves while printing. However, I think you shouldn't try to print more than one sheet at a time and beware of high temperatures of past printing jobs. For occasional printing of labels your printer might work, yet. A higher printing volume seems to demand another solution.

I don't like the Avery desktop software much as it feels quite slow. It probably is no native app, but just a bloated offline wrapper for the online version. Their latest version DesignPrint-4.0.1 is about one year old. Moving away from two different desktop versions and an online app to maintain seems logical to me. As an alternative there are various third-party label-printing apps available for Mac.

I've printed laser labels on an older Brother w/o issues. I used labels designed for a laser printer to ensure they can take the heat. I use Word to layout the labels by creating a table to allow control over the layout. I first print a test copy on plain paper to ensure it lines up with the labels.
