Printing docs and images (not photos) in MacOS?

Just gone through about ten sheets of paper to attempt to get a document the right size...the percentages thing does not work...for example, it seems to default to 96% and that fills the page, but if I select say, 65%, it's tiny, and no other variations between the two makes much difference, even at 95% it still prints a pretty small image in the centre of the page.

How does the print tool scaling and resizing work in MacOS? I can pretty much nail it in Windows!

And instead of going straight to the printer, why not try some experiments with settings and then printing it as a PDF? Saves on wasting paper, ink/toner while tinkering around with changing options.
