Will the iPad be able to print to a printer on my wireless network? because that will be a selling point for me.

I've posted about this before. Printing documents ( you can already print photos from the iphone) from within any app will be a feature that makes it even less likely for me to need to use my other computers to do this.

Hopefully this will happen, maybe not at the getgo, but hopefully in os 4.

I'd say that it'll print akin to the iPhone (read: only to a networked Mac computer with a printer share). I have yet to see non-printer-specific iPhone app that prints to a wireless/LAN printer yet. I think it comes down to drivers, and the fact that iPhone OS doesn't include them. That's why the printer needs to be hooked up to a networked Mac, so it can do all the heavy-lifting.

Now if that changes in the iPad's OS, then I will stand corrected.

HTH

I would imagine that if Apple is going to have Pages available on the iPad, that they would build in the functionality to print. Maybe if there's enough "Unix" built into the iPhone/iPadOS, they could use the generic line printer (lpr) to send to a networked printer.

Obviously you should also be able to dock the iPad and send the file to the desktop to be printed, but I think being able to print FROM the iPad is an even cooler idea.

I remember reading that either beta 1 or beta 2 of 3.2 SDK had some sort of printing calls in the code. I don't remember hearing about them later, so they were either removed or nothing changed. If anything, it should be included in OS 4.0. If its not then I'll be pretty irked. All I can do now is print photos to my Canon MP560 wifi printer (including screenshots, which my wife does for recipes).

I expect there will be some sort of native wifi enabled print functionality built into the OS- if for no other reason than to support iWork.

Given that 4.0 seems to have been the originally targeted OS for the iPad at launch (which I think is just an assumption- but could be wrong), I could definitely see it not being in the launch version of the OS . I'd be shocked however if it's not built into 4.0 when it comes out.

I think the iPad will see a real expansion of the iPhone OS software.... I think people will be surprised by the functionality the iPad will offer, maybe even in the first generation. Phil Schiller's demonstration of iWork was quite impressive... other than typing, iWork looked much more intuitive and user-friendly than Microsoft Office. I was impressed.

I can print about anything i need with Eurosmartz product, and I expect it to work on the iPad too.

But, printing via Bonjour would be nice... i have the need to print in the field and my Eurosmartz solution might not work well unless i can set it up on someone's laptop. Which would we why i could possibly need to be buying an Airport Express.....

I'm kind of worried when everyone just assumes the solution to alot of the problems with the ipad and iphone is that 4.0 is going to fix it. I'm hoping beyond hope that's true for most things, but I guess I'm just a little pessimistic that 4.0 will be this perfect upgrade that will solve all the software problems and missing features that the iphone and ipad have.

Apple has made not public comment about when they will release 4.0, or what will be in it. So I don't think we can just assume it will have all these great features.
