Just loaded up Montery. With Private Relay on, using safari, it's almost nil-none. Takes forever to load, if it does.
I suspect it's not the PR relay but how it interacts with the network as when I turn it off, on the same network, it behaves just fine.

Interesting in concept - TBD, on how universal it works across all networks

Same here, with PR on clicking on a URL can take 10's of seconds to load the page. Turning PR off and things are normal?

This can't be normal as no one else seems to be having issues.

I think they're still working on the backend; sometimes my connection will show as being from California (where I live) and other times those addresses go down and I'm switched to a Sweden IP

After doing some more testing, it appears it might be a issue with my broadband ISP (BT) in the UK. If I enable a VPN (PureVPN) then everything returns to normal speed again, even with Private Relay enabled. Possibly it's a DNS lookup issue (just a guess)?

Update: Tried using different DNS settings (CloudFlare instead of default) but still performance is affected.

Further Update: It appears to be caused by AdGuard. If I disable AdGuard and then start Safari, all is well (apart from the ads that is).

Same here I'm in Central America, I bet this only works fine in the the US, I have to deactivate PR on my Mac, iPhone and iPad.
I tried doing a speed test and with PR activated I get 100+ ping and 80mb download speed when its inactive I get my normal ping which is around 7-10ms and 600mb download speed.

It's pretty much impossible for me to watch YouTube videos in 4K with PR on. I'm still keeping it on though, since I like the privacy concept a lot. I use Brave Browser when I need speed.

I seem to start getting corrupted page loads when using private relay too - but all is fine with it disabled.
iOS15 seems to work fine with private relay

Below are the challenges I am facing on M1 MBP in United Arab Emirates
1. My broadband speed is 500 mbps.. however with PR enabled, it never clocked beyond 80 mbps
2. Occasionally web pages stop loading. When I disable and reenable PR, everything works usually
3. IP V4 shows a US based IP address and IPV6 shows India address (I set the broader location to chose the IP)

It's pretty standard to lose a sizeable amount of speed when passing through a VPN, especially if you are using a very popular node or are far from it.

My gigabit connection gives me maybe 300-500mbps, depending on where the server is (usually in the GTA).

Well... It won't go down so drastically. I use Nord VPN which usually clocks around 450 mbps. However dropping to 80 mbps... not sure how they are setting up these servers

Private Relay sucks for me, I lose like 2/3 of the bandwidth. So not using it at the moment.

I thought that private relay only works for safari, but Chevron, 76, and Mobil Exxon apps won’t work with private relay enabled.

I hope they have an option in the future to whitelist certain apps and websites. it’s a hassle to have to disable it to buy gas.
