just and unfounded rumor, but still . . .

http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...le-pro-audio-applications-team-decimated.html

Apple’s Pro Audio application team is virtually gone, according to recent conversations with a couple of ex-Apple employees. Europe is now down to just two pro application specialists according to sources, with the key pro applications job going and with no plans to replace the post. In the meantime the outgoing post-holder’s deputy has had to assume responsibilty for any work in addition to their own. In the words of one of them, the team has been ‘decimated’.

Wow, :(:(

I'm already saddened by the fact that I whatever OS that comes on the Mac Pro I intend to buy next year will probably be very dumbed down and iOS-like. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Team of what? This sounds alot like what happened with FCP. That these are not developers. So the Application team ( those who build the application) are still there. In fact, the first comment on the linked article asserts that position.

At one time Apple thought it was good to bring in full time pro users who would "guide" the app and also go out and do community/support work with customers in the field. Effectively "translators" to communicate between the app developers and the general user body. At some point those 'middle men' took on the notion that they were the critical piece of the puzzle and that FCP/Logic/etc would fail if they weren't there. Subject matter experts tend to be poor gatherers of requirements and trends. After a while if have a group of them they tend to become maintainers of the status quo and advocates of homogenous features with competing products.
There are exceptions but after a while, without very careful protections, they effective become a somewhat stale focus group. Apple really doesn't do "focus groups" so it isn't surprising to see these purged over time.

Yet Macs are the primary choice for pro video & music creators.

Or at least they used to be. Throughout college I noticed our studios slowly gained Windows PCs as time progressed. Although that could be more to do with the fact that Pro Tools ran like total trash on OS X, which would make it Avid's fault.

I do think that now Windows is actually capable of handling audio and video processing without a decades worth of latency, that there is little incentive to spend more on a Mac.

This is so retarded. What are you talking about?there's only a few little things that "might" change the way you used SL for example. everything iOS-like is optional.

Not everything. And my problems aren't just with the iOSification. I do have an older Mac Pro, and I have had everything from Leopard to Mountain Lion. I have used Lion on it for more than a year, then put Mountain Lion on it, and while there are definately many nice things about Mountain Lion, I did a clean install of Snow Leopard on there and everything was much better. It is less intensive, more compatible, and performs better. It also suits my workflow better.

Texas, unfortunately.
It really bothers me that Apple can't seem to look past the present in terms of where it's development and direction are headed. They've found a huge market in the smartphone/tablet sector, and therefore for some reason, have decided to all but abandon their previous ventures. Certainly they weren't the cash cow that the iToys are, but they can't seriously believe they can ride this wave forever?

I haven't been a big Apple fan for a couple years now, mostly because of the lack of attention they've given to their products outside of the iDevices, and even when they toss something else a bone, it's usually only to make it more compatible with said devices.

Honestly, I kind of hope Apple gets a kick in the rear by the next up-and-coming thing in tech, too busy focusing on their toys to even notice how quickly they start sinking into the red. Maybe then they'll learn what "customer loyalty" really means.

The retina 15 is the best laptop ever produced. they never sold as many macs, the air is the best laptop (price/performance/features) for 95% of PC users. The iMac is the best selling desktop and the best one (will be again after december...).

Basically they are only taking a while for their huge towers. So what?

Like I said, they throw the Mac platform a bone every so often. They're not updated or given as much spotlight as they once did. I don't expect things to back to "the glory days", but it's pretty clear that Macs have been evermore neglected as the iOS market explodes.

The iMac uses a mobile GPU, Apple doesn't have any current product with an optical drive other than the Mac Pro, the iPod Classic is still neglected by Apple, even with the introduction of the Lightning connector, there hasn't been many major case changes in the Mac Pro since 2003 (With the G5 case), and they still update their mobile products much more than their desktop ones... they are obviously focusing on iDevices a lot more than Macs.

The iMac uses a mobile GPU-that's only about 30% slower than a 680, so it's very fast, without eating so much energy and generating so much heat. 680mx, Apple doesn't have any current product with an optical drive other than the Mac Pro- because optical drives belong in 2003, the iPod Classic is still neglected by Apple-because it's an old product. no one is updating tractors that much, even with the introduction of the Lightning connector, there hasn't been many major case changes in the Mac Pro since 2003 (With the G5 case)-they still had the best workstation out there by a big margin on every department until 12 months ago., and they still update their mobile products much more than their desktop ones...-blame the all industry for that, not apple. they are obviously focusing on iDevices a lot more than Macs.

you need to educate yourself.

You didn't understand my statement.

Mobile components are slower than their desktop counterparts. For the same price, they are able to use a graphics card with much higher performance. Heat wasn't much of an issue, Macs are generally supposed to run hotter than most PC's. The fact that they are compromising performance in the iMac shows that they have a different goal in mind.

because optical drives belong in 2003

See Renzatic's reply.

because it's an old product. no one is updating tractors that much

The iPod Classic is the only iPod with a ClickWheel, and has a much larger storage capacity than their other products for a cheaper price. It still as a userbase, and there are advantages of the iClassic over other music players. There are many improvements that can be made to the Classic, i.e. Lightning or a higher EQ headphone jack that Apple has not yet added.

blame the all industry for that, not apple.

The industry is the reason they would do that. I was simply acknowledging the fact that they did not update their desktop lines nearly as much as their iDevices.
